| | Bristol Named as UK's Most Bike Friendly City | If you're looking for a bike friendly city then the latest study by Cycling Plus magazine will surely be of interest to you. Out of 20 of the largest towns and cities in
the UK the study found that Bristol was the most bike-friendly. This result was undoubtedly helped by the £22.8m in funding Bristol was awarded after being named as the
first 'Cycling City' in the country by the Department for Transport in June 2008.
This funding was intended to encourage more people to use bikes in the city by improving the infrastructure and has already paid for a bike path alongside the outer city
ringroad, among other infrastructure improvements. In all £100m was awarded to improve cycling in the UK, other cities to receive funding being Cambridge, Colchester,

| | Bike Riding Safety Tips | Bike riding is a fun way to get exercise but it can be dangerous if you don't take care. Here are some tips to help you keep safe while you're
cycling.
First and most important - get the right equipment and keep it working properly. Make sure you buy the right size of bike for you, when you sit on the
bike the tips of your toes should just touch the ground. If your feet are flat on the ground or your toes are waving in the air the bike is the wrong
size. If you're buying the bike online then you won't be able to try it beforehand for size so you will need to calculate the correct frame size.
First measure your inside leg, measuring to the ground, Read More about Bike Riding Safety Tips
| | What Type of Bike to Choose | There are many types of bike available, before you consider buying a bike you should have a good idea of the type(s) of cycling you want to do, as
this will govern the type of bike to buy.
BMX Bikes BMX stands for Bicycle Moto Cross. These bikes were first designed for racing on a Moto-Cross circuit instead of a
motorbike, so had a small frame, small wheels and only one gear. These bikes are great for performing tricks and stunts over ramps and are very solid
and robust, they need less maintenance than other bikes due to the lack of gears. They are not bikes for riding any distance in comfort.

| | How to Choose and Wear a Cycle Helmet | A bike helmet needs to fit properly to do its job of protecting your head in an accident. To find the correct size measure around
your head just above the ears. The helmet should be worn level and should fit snugly, touching your head at the front, back, top and each side, and
the straps should be in front of and behind your ears, not on top of them. You need to be able to see and hear clearly when wearing your helmet so
make sure it doesn't cover your ears or obstruct your vision. If fitting pads are supplied with the helmet use these to adjust the fit, or if your
helmet has a fitting ring adjust the size with this, until pushing the helmet from side to side and front to back creates no noticable movement. Then
adjust the straps to give a good fit. Check that the helmet presses against your forehead when you open your mouth, if it doesn't tighten the straps a
little more. Read More about How to Choose and Wear a Cycle Helmet
